Hummingbirds are just mesmerizing, how they actually rotate their wings instead of flapping them up and down at incredible speeds of up to 70 beats per second. They migrate twice a year over 500 miles! Many hummingbirds will not just stop and winter in the southern states, they continue across the Gulf of Mexico to Costa Rica and Mexico. According to RISmedia.com, hummingbirds start preparing themselves by taking in sugar nectar and insects, doubling their size 25-40% before they begin their migration.
Even with all the preparing these little darlings do to prepare for their long migration flights, I can’t help to think as they make these outstanding flights, underneath these precious little birds are God’s everlasting arms, their refuge until they make it across the gulf. (Deuteronomy 33:27)
Just as the hummingbirds fatten up and ready themselves for migration twice a year, we too need prepare ourselves for our daily and life journeys. We are living in a broken world. To persevere in our assignments we have been blessed with by God, and to stand firm in our faith when the dark powers try to steal, kill, and destroy us, (John 10:10 a) we need to prepare ourselves for the long haul.
“MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD” Sorry, not yelling at you, just got a little excited about Matthew 4:4.
Fattening up on the bread of God is exactly the diet we need to encourage, discern, teach, and equip ourselves to travel through and live abundantly with Jesus. By carving out specific time, coming into God’s sanctuary, His loving, all-encompassing arms will come under us and hold us through any and all circumstances.
With this in mind, I did a little search for a few scriptures which describe the benefits we receive when we “dig in” to the diet of The Bread of Life.
Romans 15:4 tells us, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
Benefits: Instruction and Hope
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Benefit: Living and Active
Benefit: Discerns the thoughts and intentions of our hearts.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
Benefit: God breathed
Just as the hummingbirds are responsible for their flight prep, we are responsible for preparing ourselves to stand firm in our faith. When we do, we can trust that God will take care of the rest.
How comforting is that? To me, extremely. I hope it makes you feel comforted to know that you have a loving heavenly father that is just waiting to be your stronghold.
